von Beckerath Organ

The Saint Paul Cathedral von Beckerath Organ was ceremonially dedicated on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, 1962, with the His Eminence John J. Cardinal Wright, D.D., then Bishop of Pittsburgh, presiding.

The instrument is composed of four manuals and pedal with sixty-seven stops, totaling ninety-seven ranks of pipes (approximately 5000 individual pipes). It has a thirty-two foot metal Principal, forming the pedal towers to each side of the oak case, and a divided Rückpositiv, forming a separate organ, extending from the gallery rail. Two ranks of Spanish trumpets (trompettes-en-chamade) project horizontally from the center of the case. A modern American-type console combines the classic mechanical key action with electro pneumatic stop action預 dramatic merger of seventeenth and twentieth century ideas. There are 26 General and 4 pedal Combination Pistons. Additionally, there are 6 additional Combinations for each of the four manuals. With the Couplers, it is possible to couple the Swell to the Great, Solo to the Great, Rückpositiv to the Great, and Swell to the Pedal.
