TV Ministry

You want to experience the Mass, but...

...You want to attend weekday Mass, but the roads are covered with ice and you can’t get to the Cathedral...

...It is Sunday morning, but you are so sick that you wonder if you can make it to the bathroom, let alone to Mass...

...You were driving along, when that other driver smashed into your car. You want to go to Mass to thank God for sparing your life, but your doctor has insisted that you stay off your feet for a week...

...You are deaf, but can lip-read. If only you could be close enough to see the Priest’s lips...

...It is a Tuesday, and you are moved to hear the Word of God, but your schedule does not allow you to get to Mass...

The Solution

In the Spring of 1991, a group of volunteers formed the TV Ministry at Saint Paul Cathedral. They felt the call to bring the Mass to those at home, who, due to age, injury, circumstance, or special challenge, were unable to experience the Mass in person.

On March 17, 1991, the 8:00 AM Sunday Mass was broadcast for the first time by this group of volunteers. Since then, the TV Ministry has broadcast the Mass daily, live every morning from Saint Paul Cathedral, not to fulfill the obligation to attend Mass, but to bring the Mass to those for whom attendance is impossible or as enrichment for those for whom no obligation exists.

Stations and Broadcast Times

The service is broadcast over the commercial cable television network. Check your local listing for times.

How Can I Help?

Mass is cablecast from the Cathedral every day of the year. There are at least two people needed each day; one to work with the TV camera, and a second to work behind the scenes in the TV Control Room (pictured right).

As the nature of this Ministry is very technical and detail oriented, there is an extensive training requirement before anyone can work with the camera or in the control room. Additionally, individuals should consider their ability to be at the Cathedral, regardless of the weather. Stormy or snowy days are exactly when the cablecast Mass is most needed.

For further information, please contact the Coordinator of the Cathedral Parish TV Ministry. The easiest way to do this is to leave a message at the Parish Office.
