St. Bede Pastoral Council
[Top]

The Pastoral Council serves as an advisory and consultative body participating in the decision-making processes of the Parish, exercising powers appropriate to its functions as set forth in the Constitution, Bylaws and the Eighteenth Synod of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The Council studies, plans, coordinates, executes, and supports the spiritual and temporal programs of the Parish.  The Council seeks to use the skills and abilities of parishioners for the benefit of the Parish and the community. It is also keenly interested in the thoughts and opinions of parishioners concerning issues important to St. Bede Parish. Elections to the Pastoral Council take place every two years. There are seventeen members of Council dispersed into three standing committees: Apostolate, Education, and Worship.

The Pastoral Council meets at least four times per year.  All meetings are announced in the bulletin.  All parishioners are invited to attend.

Adult Education
[Top]

This group designs and implements opportunities for spiritual growth for adults in the Parish.  Our goal is to empower parishioners to respond more fully to their baptismal call by reflecting on their life experiences in light of the Gospel message.  It also provides an opportunity to share our knowledge, good humor, prayers, and support with one another.  The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults--RCIA(below), St. Bede Parents at Home (see separate info), ongoing Scripture classes, book discussion groups, special speakers and programs for adults fall under this heading.

Rite Of Christian Initiation (RCIA)

The RCIA is a communal process of spiritual and educational formation for adults who seek to become full members of the Roman Catholic Church through their conversion of mind and heart. The process is open to all persons, regardless of religious background who genuinely seek, by God's grace, to live their lives in the distinctive Catholic Christian faith.

The Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults is the process through which adults (and children/teens) become members of the Catholic Faith.  Any person who has never been baptized or, has been baptized in another Christian church and would like to consider this faith journey in the Catholic Church,  is invited to attend. There is absolutely no pressure to become a catholic. This is a time of decision.  If a person  was baptized as a Catholic but never received any follow-up formation or never received the remainder of the sacraments of initiation (i.e., Confirmation/and or Eucharist) this process is for them as well.

You can begin the process or for more information contact Sr. Mary Elizabeth, 412-661-9425 x 13 or pastoralassociate@stbedepgh.org

RCIA meets Wednesday evenings at 7:30PM in the rectory.

The Angel Tree
[Top]

The Angel Tree provides Christmas presents to needy parishioners and community organizations such as Holy Family Institute, Auberle, Miryam’s House, and Life Line.  An angel tree is put up in the church approximately the last weekend of November.  Parishioners choose an angel, buy a gift for the person on their tag, and bring the gift back to church.  The gifts are then sorted and distributed.  Volunteers are needed at each of the Sunday Masses throughout the Angel Tree “Drive”.

The Angel Tree will go up in November.  Gifts will be collected after all weekend masses through December.

The St. Bede Choir
[Top]

The St. Bede choir seeks to enhance the celebration of the liturgy through music.  We hope to strengthen and support the parish’s worship through the use of our gifts.   The Choir takes pride in striving to serve God through musical excellence. Those interested in joining are invited to contact the rectory, speak to the music director after Mass, or contact the director at the number listed on the Bulletin cover.    The ability to read music is not required only an interest in learning.

The choir sings at the 10:00AM Mass every Sunday from September through May.   Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 7:45 PM in the church, and on Sunday mornings at 9:30 before the Mass.  June, July and August are our vacation months.   Occasional parties, picnics and dinners are planned throughout the year.

The Christian Mothers
[Top]

In 1984 Fr. Bertin Roll installed the Christian Mothers at St. Bede.  Since that time, the Christian Mothers have served the parish community in predominately two ways.  They lead the daily rosary prior to Mass and they lead the rosary for the deceased.  When a parishioner “goes to God” The Christian Mothers lead the rosary on their behalf.  There are usually two fundraisers per year, the proceeds of which are used to purchase Mass cards for deceased members.

The Good Neighbor Network
[Top]

The Good Neighbor Network is an offshoot of the Apostolate Committee of the Pastoral Council which acts as a "good neighbor" by providing care with everyday living for elderly or infirm parishioners.  Any parishioner in need of help should call the St. Bede rectory.

The St. Bede Guild
[Top]

The Saint Bede Guild has been deeply concerned with the well being of the parish since its formation.  The Guild exists to foster a sense of community within the parish and raise needed funds by directing the annual Holiday Party at the Field Club.  The Guild cooperates with all other parish organizations. At the Lenten Communion Breakfast, we participate at Mass and receive communion as a group, enhancing the spiritual life of our members.  A catered breakfast in the school cafeteria follows with a guest speaker to address the group.  Although there is a charge, this is not a fundraising event. The Guild is open to all men and women in the parish over the age of eighteen.  Membership entitles members to share in the spiritual benefits of the Guild. When a member “goes to God” a Mass is offered in their honor.  A mass is offered every month for living and deceased members.  Membership is $5.  Please join us!

The Liturgy Planning Committee
[Top]

This energetic group of parishioners brainstorms to gather ideas for decorating our sacred space in Church and provides the manual labor needed to implement them.  We are open to all suggestions for enhancing our environment, which in turn will help us praise God more completely.

The Liturgy Planning Committee meets monthly.  Contact the rectory for the current month’s schedule.

The Martha Ministry
[Top]

This group provides meals, runs errands, and offers support for parishioners who need an extra pair of hands during an illness or crisis.  Any parishioner in need of help should call the St. Bede rectory.

St. Bede Parents at Home
[Top]

This group provides a parish connection for parents who work at home caring for young children.  Since we seldom are able to hear the readings at Mass over the din we use our time together to read and discuss the weekly scriptures while the children play.  We also have purely social outings about once a month.  We are currently organizing a volunteer service branch.

The weekly meetings are Fridays from 10AM–11:30AM.  On the first Friday of each month we visit a Pittsburgh attraction.

The Respect Life Committee
[Top]

The purpose of this group is to raise awareness and encourage St. Bede parishioners to prayerfully and thoughtfully witness the sanctity and dignity of every human life, at every stage of that life.  Call to offer your services to this special group.

Each January 22 we participate in the March for Life in Washington, DC.  In October we celebrate Respect Life Month through participation in the Pittsburgh Life Chain.

St. Bede Senior Citizens
[Top]

The mission of the St. Bede Senior Citizens is to promote a spirit of fellowship for adults of any religious belief who are 55 or older. Our goal is to interact with our peers and share our time and our talents with the entire St. Bede community.

The group meets for a luncheon on the first Tuesday of every month at 1:00PM in the Adult Meeting Room of the St. Bede Activity Center and will hold an annual Christmas party in December.

St. Vincent De Paul Conference
[Top]

The conference serves the needs of the poor in our parish and our community by distribution of food cards, clothing, household needs, and furniture.

The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 9:35AM in the rectory.

Sanctuary Volunteers
[Top]

The Sanctuary Volunteers are responsible for the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the church.  Weekly, three members dust the altar, check and replace candles, lay clean linens, clean and fill the holy water fonts and freshen the sanctuary.

The members assigned for the week coordinate a convenient time to meet and joyfully serve God.

Ushers
[Top]

St. Bede Ushers Group is a service organization responsible for greeting the congregation as they arrive for Mass and seating them as necessary. They determine if people who are infirm wish the Eucharist to be brought to them and notify the Eucharistic Ministers.  Ushers take up the collection and ask parishioners to take up the gifts at the Offertory. They also pass out bulletins and help to straighten up the church after Mass. Ushers arrive at the church 15 minutes prior to the processional.  If you’d like to join the group please contact the rectory at 412.661.7222.
