| St. Bede School, an elementary school of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. It employs 27 full and part time lay teachers, all with post secondary degrees and most with graduate degrees. They are responsible for homeroom classes in grades Preschool through Eight and various special classes. Homeroom class size reaches a maximum at 35 students with the homeroom students divided into two groups for most of the day. The comprehensive academic curriculum at St. Bede School is something of which St Bede is very proud. Teachers use different methods of teaching, such as lecturing, modeling, and using manipulatives. The students are actively involved with literature and language. Teachers help students to build their confidence and knowledge in math and problem solving. Students learn about the world through science and social studies, preparing them for a global society. St. Bede has a state-of-the-art computer lab to prepare the students for the ever-growing technological world. They develop creative skills through our art department, including dramatic plays. St. Bede students are very well rounded and score approximately four years above the national average in math and reading by the eighth grade. Based on standardized test scores, St. Bede Elementary School is consistently ranked in the top 5% of all schools tested nationally, and one of the top three elementary schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
