SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
In order for your child to be properly prepared
for class and to be able to maintain an acceptable level of proficiency,
it is extremely important for your child to arrive at school on time and
to be present when school is in session. Assignments and school work
missed due to absence will need to be completed with the assistance of
parents at home. This work needs to be completed in a reasonable
amount of time so that your child does not fall behind in his/her school
work. Please plan any trips during scheduled school holidays.
For further information regarding attendance, please see the Handbook pages
6 and 7.
HOMEWORK
Homework time will be approximately 20-40 minutes.
Children will generally have the opportunity to begin and work on assignments
in class. Work not completed in class then becomes homework.
All assignments are to be neat and completed on time. Children need
the experience that this work provides. It is important to complete
work on time so that the children do not fall behind in their studies.
If homework is incomplete it will then be completed during recess time.
All children have a Student Planner. At the end of each day I review
the homework assignments that are written on the board. Then the
children are to write all assignments in their Student Planner and gather
all their books, workbooks, and worksheets needed to complete their assignments.
Using the folders that were provided at the beginning of school will help
the children keep their papers organized.
CONDUCT/DISCIPLINE
The children will always be encouraged and guided
to follow the Golden Rule, to be respectful of everyone’s rights, and to
work on self-control. Various types of positive reinforcement will
be utilized in the classroom. Classroom rules are explained and reviewed.
These rules are clearly stated and displayed in the room. School
wide rules are explained and reviewed. These rules are stated in
the Handbook. If a child displays inappropriate behavior his/her
name is written on the board. If a child receives two checkmarks
noting continued inappropriate behavior, there will be a consequence.
Pages 15-18 in the Handbook provide detailed information on discipline.
COMMUNICATION
During the school year weekly Newsletters will
be sent home with your child providing general information on the upcoming
week’s activities. These will be sent home in the Friday Folder.
Should you need to contact me, please use the school’s voice mail system
(412-661-9425 #22), or write a brief note and I will respond as soon as
possible.
