Saint Bonaventure Parish

In 1950, Saint Bonaventure's was declared a parish by Archbishop Richard Cushing, appointing Fr. Burns as the first pastor. Mass was held in Carl's restaurant. Carl and his wife Irma had just built a new dining room and donated the use of it to St. Bonaventure's until the physical Church was completed in September of 1951.

Some events celebrated in the new parish were as follows: Little Eric Charles Wood was the first baby baptized. In July 1951 a concert by the Roslindale cadets followed a Father/Son baseball game. All the proceeds were donated to the new Parish. Masses were held on Sunday only at 8 and 9:30 AM. There were food sales (raising $160.00) and even the children had a candy table, which raised $35.00! Collections were taken for the National Shrine in Washington, D.C. and the building of the Nazarene Children's home. A carnival was held in the summer at St. Catherine's.
