EUCHARISTIC EXPOSITION & BENEDICTION

Eucharistic Exposition begins with a minister of the church (a priest, deacon, or extraordinary minister of Holy Communion) removing the Eucharist from the tabernacle and placing the Blessed Sacrament on the altar for all to see, for adoration, for prayer, and for listening to the Lord in silence.  The Eucharist is placed in a special vessel called a “monstrance.”  When the priest or deacon presides, Exposition concludes with Evening Prayer and Benediction (the blessing of God).  The presider takes up the monstrance and makes the sign of the cross over the people in silence.  We receive this blessing (Benediction) together by making the sign of the cross.  The Eucharist is then reverently returned to the tabernacle.  When an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion presides, Exposition concludes with Evening Prayer, and the Eucharist is reverently returned to the tabernacle.

You are cordially invited to come and spend some special time with Jesus in Eucharistic Exposition & Benediction here at St. Bonaventure’s.  On the first Friday of each month, Exposition begins after the 8:00 AM Mass (about 8:30 AM) and continues all day, concluding with Evening Prayer and Benediction at 5:30 PM.  On the remaining three Fridays of the month, Exposition begins at 12:00 Noon, concluding with Evening Prayer and Benediction at 5:30 PM.   While Exposition is going on, you are encouraged to come and go as you please.  When coming in or leaving, the practice of the Church is to “genuflect on one knee.”  Because other people are praying, silence is observed and honor and respect is given to Jesus upon the altar at all times.  In your time before the Lord, you may read scripture or other appropriate reading material.  You may pray the Rosary or other prayers and devotions.  Sitting in silence, being present to Him and open to His word is highly recommended in Eucharistic Adoration.
