Catechesis
during childhood depends largely on the child's experience in his/her
relationship with others. The child's immediate environment,
normally the home, remains the child's main experience of this lived
relationship with God, but now, the support of a larger community becomes
highly important to formation in faith and its absence becomes a serious
matter.
Catechesis seeks to help children make an increasingly personal response
to God's word and gifts. Catechesis approaches young persons with
reverence and aids them in discovering and developing their unique,
God-given gifts with the help of the gospel. |
|
Goals
of Early Childhood Catechesis:
- Develop in the child a sense of
wonder at the world around him or her.
- Become sensitive to the spiritual
needs of the child.
- Help the child understand God as
loving and caring Parent.
- Help the child appreciate self as
a gift of God.
- Provide an opportunity for
children to develop an awareness of the presence of God in things and
people.
- Provide the child with a sense of
belonging in the Christian Community.
- Help the children experience joy
and ease in spontaneous prayer.
- Introduce the attitudes and
elements of celebrating and worship.
- Develop in the child a quality of
wonder, basic to building a child-like trust relationship with God.

Faith
Formation for Elementary School Students
After school program for public school children
3:45 - 5 p.m.Thursdays during the school year
Grades 1st - 5th |
| This
program centered on preparing a child for the eventual awakening of faith.
Because of the nature of the young child, he or she requires a period
during which religious sensitivity is developed. This precedes
formal efforts toward religious education if he or she is to grow to
Christian maturity. Our aim is to lay the groundwork for his or her
gradual discovery of a personal relationship with God. |

foundation in the light of the documents and meets the developmental needs
of the children. It proclaims the total message of Christ without
distortions, provides those who use it a better knowledge of the
mysteries of Christ, and it aims at true conversion and life in the
conformity to God's will. |

Confirmation
For high school students |
This is a
two-year preparation program to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Year 1 students meet on Sundays from 9:45 - 11:45 a.m.
Year 2 students meet on Sundays from 10:45 - 11:45 a.m.
Confirmation is the sacrament of
spiritual strengthening. During confirmation, a baptized person receives
the Holy Spirit, is strengthened in grace, and signed as a soldier of Christ.
By the sacrament of
Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and
are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Through anointing, the confirmed received the "mark" the seal

Rite of Christian
Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
Two-year program for adults.
Meetings are once a week. |
| The
way in which the parish welcomes and prepares newcomers is founded in the
ancient Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The
RCIA is the process through which adults are initiated into the Catholic
Faith. It is a journey process that is completed over a period of one to
two years. It is the beginning of a lifelong journey in faith which
continues after the reception of the sacraments of initiation. Mrs.
