PICTURES OF OUR OLD AND NEW PIPE ORGANS

Our old pipe organ was built in 1911.  It was purchased in 1925 from the Congregational Church in Clifton Springs by Father John Ganey, (1885-1946) the third pastor of Saint Dominic Church.  The Congregational Church had closed. Its organ was a “tracker” organ, which worked with mechanical rods connecting the keys to the pipes.

Father Ganey had the organ electrified by Arthur Kohl, a well-known organ builder of that time. Mr. Kohl specialized in building new organs out of old parts. The electrification gave the organ a console separate from the pipe case and connected by hundreds of wires. The organ was dedicated on the Sunday after Easter April 19, 1925 by Father John Ganey.

The organ was remanufactured and reinstalled April 21-26, 2003 and dedicated on the Sunday after Easter April 27, 2003 by Bishop Matthew H. Clark.

The new organ has 719 pipes, with 304 from the old organ and 415 new pipes. The organ case is new and the wooden shell of the console was reused and fitted with two new keyboards and control mechanisms.

The project was approved unanimously by the Parish Council on Mother's Day, May 13, 2001.
The cost of this project by Parsons Organ Builders of Canandaigua was $96,000.
The first picture below shows the old organ hiding the four choir windows over the front door of the church.
These became visible when the old organ was removed in October 2002. The 1925 console is at the right.

The four towers remained at Parsons Organ Builders. They were returned to the parish in 2006, restored and used to build the Eucharistic Tower in the Sanctuary. The four electric candles were restored and lighted at the Dedication by Bishop Clark.

The plaque honoring the late Alice Boardman (1904-1993) can be seen to the right of

the organ case. In April 2003, It was moved to a prominent location central to the loft.

Mrs. Boardman served for fifty-nine years as our organist. (1932-1991)

On Saturday 26 March 2005, just before the Easter Vigil,

fourteen of the nineteen quatrefoils of the old organ were

mounted above the front doors of church with stained glass attached.

The above two photos were taken by day inside and night outside.

The following eight computer-assisted designs (CAD) were presented to the parish on

Friday April 27, 2001 to show what the remanufactured organ would look like when completed.

This date was exactly two years before the dedication of the organ.
