Parish News

The Auburn Catholic Community is celebrating a joint Mass of Thanksgiving to be held at Saint Mary’s Church at 9:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 2008.  As this years host church, Saint Mary’s is inviting members of the Auburn Catholic faith community to join in giving thanks for our many blessings. 

St. Mary’s will also be celebrating an earlier Community Mass at 7:00am for those who can’t attend the concelebrated Mass.

The collections will be divided between the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry and the Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes (CCFL) Emergency Assistance Program. This program enables CCFL to give financial assistance to those in need locally for basic needs including personal hygiene items; baby-related items such as diapers, special formula; prescriptions and other medical/health-related needs, transportation, utilities/heating, and rent. Both the Food Pantry and CCFL have seen a substantial increase of families who are in need and your generous donations are always greatly appreciated.

On November 30, 2008, the First Sunday of Advent, the priests will be blessing Bibles at all Masses at St. Francis and St. Hyacinth.  You are encouraged to bring your Bible, new or old, and a special blessing will be said over them.

We have now opened our Mass and Memorial Books for 2009.

Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA)

The annual Catholic Ministries Appeal for 2008/ 2009 is in progress.  All registered parishioners will receive a brochure, letter, pledge card and return envelope in the mail.  Please read the material carefully and give consideration to your participation. 

We thank everyone who has responded with a gift or pledge.  If you have not yet responded, please consider your participation.  The CMA provides funding for important programs, services and ministries that strengthen our whole Church. Thank you.

Seeking adult candidates for a part-time position at St. Francis of Assisi Parish-Auburn (10-12 hours / week).  Duties include cleaning & maintenance of buildings & grounds, snow removal, event set-ups & misc. duties.  Some weekend hours may be required.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds.  Person needs to be self-motivated & able to identify preventive measures.  The individual must be able to operate riding lawn mower & snow-blower.  Please send resume & cover letter to Attn:  Maintenance Position, St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 299 Clark St., Auburn, NY 13021.

Listen to Polish music every Sunday morning with our local DJ "Polka" Jim Shanahan on "Polka Party" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the local radio station aired from the Cayuga Community College campus in Auburn.  It is WDWN  and can be found at 89.1 FM on the radio dial.
