Information Regarding Baptisms at
Saint Leonard's Church

The Sacrament of Baptism is administered on the second Sunday of every month immediately after the 12 noon Mass. We recommend that Parents, God-parents and other relations are expected to attend the 12 Noon Mass and then stay on for the Rite of Baptism.

For a child to be baptized at St. Leonard’s Church, the parent(s) should be registered parishioner(s) of St. Leonard’s Parish.

If, for a just and valid reason, parishioners of another Parish wish to have their child baptized at St. Leonard’s Church, they should present a letter from their respective pastor giving permission for the child to be baptized at St. Leonard’s.

Parents should contact St. Leonard's (Tel: 617-523-2110) at least one month before the celebration of the sacrament.

Parents and God-parents will be required to attend catechetical instructions prior to the date of Baptism. The instructions are held on the Thursday before Baptism at 7:00 PM in the Rectory at 14 N Bennet Street, Boston, MA 02113.

God-parents/Sponsors: In accordance with the norms laid out in the Code of Canon Law and the Pastoral Guidelines of the Archdiocese of Boston:
→ Only one male or one female sponsor or one of each sex is to be chosen as sponsor(s).
→ To be admitted to the role of sponsor, a person must:
             → have completed the sixteenth year;
            → be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist and leads a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken;
            → not be bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared;
            → not be the father or the mother of the one to be baptized.
→ A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community may not be admitted except as a witness to baptism and together with a Catholic sponsor.
→ The person chosen to be a sponsor should have the Sponsor Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility filled in and signed by his/her respective Pastor, with the seal of his Parish, and have it mailed to St. Leonard's Parish- also at 14 N Bennet Street, Boston, MA. 02113 , Attn. to : Pastor. The Sponsor Certificate may be brought to the parish office.
