Saint Damien Society

The St. Damien Society is an all volunteer group of women who meet once a week under the auspices of St. Leonard Parish. They begin their session with a prayer and spend the rest of the time knitting, sewing, fixing and manufacturing all manner of household linen, clothing and Christmas gifts for the less fortunate.  Their wares are distributed free of cost to local shelters, nursing homes and hospitals as well as shipped around the world to meet the needs of emergencies and natural disasters in such far flung locations as Armenia, Saudi Arabia and Italy.

St. Leonard Parish is indeed fortunate to have the presence of the members of St. Damien Society. Under the able and dedicated leadership of Barbara Maldero, the members can be counted and relied upon to help the Parish in organizing various events round the year. Every year during the summer months, the members spend the weekend afternoons and evenings (Friday - Sunday) selling St. Anthony's Holy Oil to local residents and tourists. This activity has helped raise funds for the Parish while, at the same time, helping those who come every year looking for St. Anthony's Holy Oil.

The Saint Damien Society also runs many functions, not only for its members but just about any senior who wishes to participate.

The society depends on its members for labor, but usually runs a deficit since all materials used are either donated or purchased by the Society itself.  All donations - material, time or money - will be gladly and gratefully welcomed and can be offered by either calling or e-mailing St. Leonard Parish (617-523-2110 or stleonard@catholic-church.org).

To "Do Everything With Love" is the motto of the members of St. Damien Society. Everything they do is indeed done with Love - and with a Smile !
