  Pastor's Message
  Happy Easter!
We extend to you all, dearest brothers and sisters in Christ, to your
families and loved ones, our heartfelt wishes for a Joyous and Blessed Easter.
Easter speaks to us about life and love: the wonderful love God has revealed and given to the world in the resurrection of His Son. As Jesus Himself reminds us in St. John's Gospel. God has so loved the world, and each and everyone of us, that He has given us His only begotten Son, in order that everyone who believes in Him may have everlasting life.
Along with Him it has been granted to us to share in the triumph over sin and death over final adversary, conquered at last. Through Him, the Father pours out into our hearts His Spirit, the giver of life, who makes us pass from sin to grace, from death to life and ultimately from his present life to the one without end.
St. Augustine talks of two resurrections for us believers: the resurrection of the body, which will take place on that last day, and the resurrection of the heart, which occurs every day. God's power, which some day will awaken us from the sleep of death, wishes even today to raise up from the death of sin.
May we each experience this saving power of the Lord's resurrection in lives increasingly liberated from every sort of bondage, for the sake of deepening communion without Father and brethren in the Spirit of Christ risen.
May this Easter be an ever flowing fount of grace and mercy of us all.

Happy Easter!
Father Antonio Nardoianni, OFM
Father Claude Scrima, OFM
Jesus Rises in Glory from the Tomb
"They put him to death, hanging him on a gibbet; but God raised him to life on the third day, and allowed him to be clearly seen, not by the whole people, but by witnesses whom God had chosen in advance-by us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead" (Acts 10:39-41)
Peter, an eyewitness to the resurrection of Jesus, can hardly contain his surprise as he tells the story to anyone he meets. Jesus was raised from the dead!
A cruel death seemed to end everything, but Jesus was alive, risen! The apostle who denied him was forgiven by the Risen Jesus while they ate and drank together on the shore of the Lake of Galilee. A new age of God's favor had dawned!
The women at the tomb early Easter morning were the first to know, it seems, perhaps because, standing their ground beneath the cross, they clung to hope till the last. Soon the most doubtful disciples, like Thomas, were convinced. No, Jesus was not a ghost or someone they imagined. They touched his wounds with their hands. The gospels do not describe Jesus coming forth from the tomb, but only his meetings with his disciples, now one, now them all. They, in turn, burning with overpowering belief, told others that they might believe. And so, because they saw and experienced him, we meet the Risen Jesus too. "He disappeared from before our eyes, that we might find him in our hearts", St. Augustine said of our Risen Lord. Why then envy those who saw him? Who knew him face to face? United with the Risen Jesus in baptism, we share his promises made to them. We too can proclaim the same faith.

  Fasting for Love

We highly recommend to you our project “ Fasting for Love” which involves donating the monetary equivalent of a meal on Ash Wednesday and one on Good Friday in support of our Franciscan Missions in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. Our Missionaries look after the sick and malnourished infants providing medicines, food, and other basic necessities to save them from sure death. This could also be a beautiful way to honor the memory of a dear one who is no longer with us, since nothing is so beneficial to the souls of our departed brothers and sisters than works of charity done on their behalf. I will personally deliver the fruit of your Lenten sacrifice on my yearly visit to our missionaries

In Central America . On my visit I will be accompanying my Superior and a few doctors from Boston who freely offer their medical services in our clinics. Thanks to your generosity, last year I was able to distribute $10,500.00 to the clinics and orphanages that are under the care of the friars. Those contributors who were identifiable received a personal thank you note and copies of the receipts of the total amount of money was disbursed. If you decide to participate, please use the attached envelope, marked “ Love”. If you write a check, please make it payable to Franciscan Missions. Thank You

  Buona Pasqua!

Buona Pasqua -P. Antonio. P. Claudio

San Damiano Cross -Cross of St. Francis
  The Origin of the devotion
In the early days of his convention, Francis was living a penitential life alone in the countryside outside of the walls of Assisi. One day, while passing the run down church known as San Damiano (St. Damian). Francis heard an internal voice from his spirit tell him to go in and pray . He entered and knelt before the cross. There followed a time of contemplation and ecstacy. While gazing at the cross, Francis saw the lips of Jesus move and he heard the words, "Francis, go repair my housw which, as you see, is falling completely to ruin". Francis responded, "gladly will i do so, Lord". At first, Francis concentrated on repairing the church buildings of San Damiano and nearby churches. Then, when the Lord sent him many followers, he understood his commission was confirmed by Pope Innocent III, who had a dream of the church in the form of the Basilica of St. John Lateran leaning over as if to fall and one little man holding it from falling. When the Pope recognized Francis as the little man in his dream, he approved the Franciscan Order and its Rule of life. Throughout the centuries, the cross has symbolized for the Franciscans a mission to bring renewal to the Church.
