The use of
envelops by parishioners attending Mass at St. Peter’s in Auburn this
summer would be very much appreciated. If you do not have
envelops, simply use a regular envelop and label it for St. Paul’s or
call the office and our secretary would be happy to send you some
envelops.

happy here with us.

Dear Parishioners,
Our Pastoral and Finance Councils have had very open
and frank discussions about the future of St. Paul Parish over the past
year. Ms. Lorette Nault has presented a series of reflections in
the Sunday bulletin. The pastor has met with several diocesan
representatives, including Mr. Guy Chapdelaine, Chief Finance Officer
of the Diocese of Manchester, Mr. Paul Harrington, Secretary of Real
Estate, and Mr. Timothy Murray, Development Director for the
diocese. We must now make a determination, given the facts that
we have at our disposal: funds needed, clergy shortage, etc.
The most reasonable scenario at this point is to
re-roof our present church, paint the inside and replace the carpet,
install pews (expanding the seating capacity), and continue to serve
the people of the area for the short term.
With regards to the clergy shortage, it seems
unlikely that there will be a priest available to serve the parish full
time. Lorette and I are seeing the retirement years coming faster
and faster. It is becoming increasingly difficult to celebrate 5
Masses every weekend. I am happy to be able to continue serving
here at St. Paul Parish. With Lorette’s experience and
dedication, and especially her pastoral presence to you, as well as
with the able assistance of Deacon George Borkush, things are much
easier. At this point Father Michael Taylor and I are in good
health, thanks be to God. No one can predict the future, but I
know that the Holy Spirit is at work and that Christ is still with His
Church, no matter how difficult it may seem.
Fr. C. Peter Dumont

Grades K – High School
All children from grade K – the end of
Confirmation must register. The registration does not roll
over from one year to the next. You can pick up a form in the
back of the church or you can visit the parish office Monday – Thursday
during office hours or give us a call at 483-8481 and ask us to mail
you a form. We would be happy to do this
Grades K- 3 The children in
grades K – 3 attend classes during the weekend liturgies. We use
a Lectionary Catechesis which is based on the Gospel of the week.
Kindergarten students are not obliged to attend regularly.
However, beginning with grade l, students must attend classes on a
weekly basis as the program for 1st Communion is a two year
program. It is vital that students continue with their Christian
Formation even after their 1st Communion.
Grades 4 – 10 + The classes
are held once a month and the program is geared to the entire family.
Parents are strongly urged to attend the sessions as there is an adult
component to the program which helps them to deepen their knowledge of
the faith as well as making it possible for them to compliment the
practice of the faith in the home. Our last class for this
school year was on Sunday, April 15th in Auburn. We will resume
classes in September.

Question of the Week
17th
Sunday of Ordinary Time
Theme: (“The Lord’s Prayer is a map for life.)
Reading 1: Genesis 18: 20-32 (Lord, do not be angry is I speak.)
Reading 2: Colossians 2: 12- 14 (God made you alive with Christ
for he has forgiven all our sins.)
Gospel: Luke 11: 1- 13 ( Ask, and it will be given to you.)
Question
for Adults:
Jesus teaches us how to pray. When this past week did you take
the time to pray, to talk to and listen to God? This
question if fairly straight forward. The challenge in this week’s
question is in the point of listening to God’s response. Listening has
become more and more difficult in our busy society. Also, we
often forget that God’s ways are not our ways. We need to be open
to this. If we pray the Our Father with stillness and take the
time reflect on it, we will see this clearly.
Question for the Teens: Jesus teaches us
how important it is to pray. How do you ask God for what you
need? How do you listen for his response?
Very often we speak to God in the same way that
we speak to people. If we tend to be demanding with our parents,
we tend to be somewhat demanding with God. Maybe we try to be a
little more cautious with our words but we definitely expect to get
what we ask for. There is not give and take. Sometimes we
forget that God loves us and knows better than we do in the long
run. Do you give God the benefit of the doubt, or do you simply
walk away in disbelief when he doesn’t answer you exactly the ay you
want? Do you listen to his response with faith? Try it this
week.
Question
for Children? ( Prayer is talking with God and
listening to God in our hearts. Where do you talk to God and how
do you listen to what God says to you?) For
children, this is often a difficult concept to understand simply
because children under 10 years of age are very concrete in their
thinking. Perhaps it would be good to discuss the idea of
“hearing God” through “ideas” that come to us telling us how to be good
when tempted to be otherwise or, sensing a closeness to someone even if
no words are spoken.
The RCIA Process (the
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. . . is a process through which
adults or older children become more familiar with the truths and
theological teachings of the Catholic Church. The program was
developed for persons seeking full initiation in the church whether or
not they may have been baptized in another Christian
denomination. If you of someone you know thinks or feels that it
is the time to take this step, or is you would simply want more
information before committing yourself, please contact Lorette at
483-8481 or see her after Sunday Mass.

A
Look at Upcoming Events
Bereavement Support Groups
Rockingham VNA and Hospice will
be running two 6-week bereavement support groups starting Tuesday,
August 28th and concluding October 2nd. The first is a General
Group supporting those who have experienced the death of a spouse,
sibling, friend etc. The second is a Motherless Daughter Group
open to any women who has experienced the death of her mother no matter
how long it has been. The general group will meet on Tuesday
morning from 10:30 to noon and the Motherless Daughter group will meet
Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Both groups will meet at
the Rockingham VNA and Hospice office at 137 Epping Road in Exeter, NH.
The goal of a bereavement support group is to help
individuals better understand the grief process and meet others who
have also experienced the death of a loved one. Sharing the pain
can help ease some of the loneliness and feelings of isolation.
If you are interested in joning the group which is free of charge,
please call Lee Maher, Bereavement Coordinator, at 772-2981 or
1-800-540-2981 to register.
Camp Phoenix. . .A Weekend Camp for Grieving Families – Sept. 7 – 9
The Phoenix, a legendary bird of
Greek Mythology, was brilliantly colored and lived many hundreds of
years. Upon dying, the bird was cremated and a new Phoenix arose
from the ashes making the legend one of death and renewal.
Those of us facing the death of a loved one, find
our families and ourselves on a journey that may be overwhelming and
debilitating. The hard work of grieving may drain our resources
at every level. Camp Phoenix is a healthy opportunity for
individuals and families to heal by facing the challenges of their
loss.
Camp Phoenix will be celebrated at Wanakee
Conference Center in conveniently located Meredith, NH, offering the
natural beauty and peace of lakes and the forest along with complete
accessibility. Several activities, including hikes, high ropes,
arts and crafts and music will help people to focus on the range of
emotions, feelings and issues arising from loss.
Evenings will center on the campfire where we will
remember and tell stories of our loved ones and seek to let go of some
of the regrets that may still linger. Later, the adolescents and
adults will gather to gave at the stars and learn of their role through
the ages in dealing with loss.
We welcome families with children from infants
through 21 years of age. It is our belief that in having families
who have experienced a loss gather together we can promote healthy ways
of grieving and draw upon each other’s strengths. The VNA Hospice
program will provide this wonderful opportunity at no cost to those who
attend. Childcare will be provided.
