On the Way. . . The
49th Eucharistic Congress –June 15-22, Quebec City (cont.) When I
registered for the Congress last Spring I was asked to offer my
services for the distribution of Holy Communion as well as for the
Sacrament of Reconciliation. What I had promised (90 min. each
day for 2 days) eventually turned into 12 hours. On the fist day
I was assigned to celebrate the Sacrament near a concession stand
(which was closed) in order to assure some privacy. Since there
was only one chair available I remained standing, vested in alb and
stole, and welcomed the penitents who remained standing next to me
during the intimate moments of the Sacrament. There were several
other confessors in the same general area. Present was a sense of
prayer that was palpable even in a hockey arena. The penitents
approached one after the other, taking their time, expressing their
desire to be reconciled with the Lord Jesus. What began as
a 90-minute commitment soon turned into a 3-hour session which
stopped just as the Celebration of the Eucharist began. As I went
past the organizational table, one of the lay volunteers thanked me for
my time and asked if I would be available in one of the chapels for 90
minutes that afternoon, beginning at 1 pm. I said “yes” and went
to lunch. I arrived at the chapel for 1 pm and was assigned to a
very private area where there were several stations each having a small
table, a crucifix and two chairs. I was thankful to be seated
after my 3 hours standing in the morning. The penitent’s line did
not stop even though there were several confessors in the area.
Where that morning I celebrated mostly with Canadians, the afternoon
seemed to bring an international flavor. I greeted pilgrims from
Tahiti and Ivory Coast in French and others from Japan, So. Africa and
the USA in English; laity, religious and priests alike. By the
time I got a respite, it was already 4 pm! I admit I was quite tired
from my day but the experience I had within my heart was a most
grateful sense of peace and a reward beyond physical fatigue.
| Holy Apostle
Paul, help me at the beginning of this
new day to offer my body and the whole of my life as a living sacrifice
to
God. Do not permit me to conform myself
to this age but rather, by your intercession, may I be transformed by
the
renewal of my mind. Through this renewal
help me to judge what is God’s will, what is good, pleasing, and
perfect. For the one whom I seek and serve
is Jesus
Christ who is the Lord, now and forever. Amen. |

All children from k – 10 must register for
Religious Education each year. The registration does not
roll over from one year to the next. We will be mailing a
registration form through e-mail in the near future. If you have
not received a form by mid-August it is because we do not have your
e-mail address or perhaps you are not yet registered in the parish so
we do not have any pertinent information related to you family.
You can call the office between Monday –Thursday at 483-8481 to update
your e-mail info or you can pick up a registration in the entrance of
the church.
Grades K- 3 The children in
grades K – 3 attend classes during the weekend liturgies. We use
a Lectionary Catechesis which is based on the Gospel of the week.
Kindergarten students are not obliged to attend regularly. However
beginning with grade 1, students must attend classes on a weekly basis
during the Mass, as the program for 1st Communion is a two year
program.
Grades 4 – 10 +, Generation of Faith
This program is designed for both parents and
children. Parents who have children in grades 4 - 10 are
asked to attend these monthly sessions. The adult session gives them an
opportunity to refresh their memory on important matters of the faith
as well as giving them the chance to share with other adults on
pertinent issues of faith & children.

Question of the Week
18th
Sunday in Ordinary Time
Theme: (Nourished by Faith)
Reading: Isaiah 55:1-3 (Come to the Water)
Reading II: Romans 8:35-39(Bound by the Love of Christ
Gospel: Matthew 14:13-21(All ate and were Satisfied)
Question
for Adults:
How am I helping to satisfy the deeper spiritual hunger and thirst that
people experience today? This
question can be taken from two points of view. One, what are you
doing to satisfy your own spiritual hunger. And two, what are you
doing to help alleviate the spiritual hunger of other around you.
Save out and out preaching, there are many things that an individual
can do to help oneself be nourished on a spiritual level. This
holds true of things that can be done for others. The answer has
as many answers as there are people. We all have gifts and
talents we can use to help our world. The problem is that we
often shrug our shoulders and pass the responsibility to others.
Let’s take some time this week to think about ways we can help the
spiritual hunger of our family members, our friends, our co-workers or
people in our community.

How many Holy Days of
Obligation do we have in the United States. The American
Bishops maintain six Holy Days for Catholics in the United
States. They are January 1, which celebrates Mary, Mother
of God; Ascension Thursday which commemorates the
ascending of Jesus into heaven. The date fluctuates depending on
the date of Easter but it is usually in May. There is August
15th which celebrate the Assumption of Mary into heaven, November
1st, which celebrates All Saints, December 8th celebrating
the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and December 25th which
celebrates the feast of the Incarnation.
