WE ARE THE PASSIONISTS IN PITTSBURGH!
The Passionist Community, fam-ily, and friends
gathered in Pittsburgh on December 7 and 8, 2002, to celebrate the 150th
Anniversary of the first foundation of Passionists in America.
.
The Most Reverend Donald W. Wuerl, Bishop
of Pittsburgh, was the principal celebrant of the liturgy on Saturday at
St. Paul of the Cross Monastery Church. Joining him was Bishop Norbert
M. Dorsey, CP of Orlando, Florida, along with Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh,
William J. Winter, our Passionist Provincial, the Very Reverend Terence
Kristofak, CP, General Consultors, and many priests and brothers from the
Passionist Community and diocese. The Very Reverend Gerald Laba, CP, a
native of Pittsburgh, delivered a homily regarding the Passionist presence
in Pittsburgh through the years.
.
A reception and dinner was held in the
candle lit and beautifully decorated Waterfront Room at the Sheraton Hotel
at Station Square. David Crawley, a local news personality, served as Master
of Ceremonies inviting Mayor Tom Murphy, Bishop Dorsey, and Fr. Kristofak
to offer remarks.
.
The celebration continued on Sunday, beginning
with a mass celebrated by Bishop Norbert Dorsey, CP. A Champagne Brunch
followed in the Retreat Center Dining Room. A time capsule to be opened
in fifty years was placed in the sanctuary of the Monastery Church closing
the Sesquicentennial Celebration in Pittsburgh. Our grateful thanks to
the Planning Committee for this memorable celebration.
