The mid-March snowstorm didn’t stop people from looking over the new office
space in Rome.
They found out that a small room can lead to many things, and they also came up with even more possibilities!
Of course, the office room is where the files and such are kept and the paperwork done. Most of this Ministry is out and about! It is found at NYSSD for Religion Classes, or around a kitchen table for Sacramental Preparation; in church rooms for Senior Citizen groups or ICDA meetings or Bible Studies ; in churches for Advent and Lent activities;
at Diocesan meetings for Catechetical Leaders and Youth Ministers and Disabilities Advocates.
You can find me at Junior HS Youth Day, and Youth Fest here in the Diocese, or in other places accompanying our young people to the National Catholic Youth Conference and World Youth Day.
There are also the visits to hospitals, nursing homes, jails, and prisons. Then there are the always great Deaf group meetings and activities: the picnics, the dinners, the bowling and golfing, etc!
And then there’s this newsletter...slowly teaching me how to use the computer.
Always something going on!
Have you ever been to an interpreted Mass or sent your child to NYSSD’s religion
classes?
Have you ever read The Sign of Christ (Gottcha!) or visited with Bishop
Moynihan after Palm Sunday Mass at Christ the King Retreat Center?
Have you ever been able to attend NCYC or Youth Fest or Junior High Youth
Day or World Youth Day?
These and so many other activites are just a small part of what the Catholic
Deaf Community is involved in.
Yes, we are supported through the annual Hope Appeal for most of our funds,
but not all! We still need your involvement for the running of the Office.
We still need YOU to be a part of the
evangelization in the Deaf Community!
Have you found that your yearly supply of Monthly Giving envelopes haven’t
come yet?
That is because due to the changes brought on by the cut-backs, the Monthly
Giving slips will be printed in the newsletter. Just mail them to our new
address. THANK YOU!

Why are the people in the picture above together? And why are they all bundled
up?!
These are the people who serve the Catholic Deaf Community! They came from
all across the Diocese; from Binghamton, Sherburne, Rome, Westmoreland,
Phoenix, Liverpool, and Syracuse...to meet in Camillus for the interpreted
VIRTUS presentation
that the Diocese is requiring of everyone even volunteers.
The presentation was very good and we learned what to look for to protect
children from sexual abuse.
Why are they all bundled up?
Not because of the snow piling up outside. (It totaled 12 inches that
day!)
The people of St Joseph’s in Camillus welcomed us very warmly, but the
heating system was broken.
Everyone sat for the three and a half hours “cooling their heels” and other
parts. (Smile).
This group does anything for the Deaf Community!
