Suggestion: Spend a little extra time after each Mass in a prayer of thanksgiving for the gift of Christ in the Eucharist.

Design Our Logo Contest

The new logo will be used on our new brochure.

Entries will be judged on idea and artistry.
Award will be $50.

Our Mission Statement
We are a community of people - Deaf, Hard-of Hearing, and Hearing- who welcome and encourage each other to grow in faith and experience love. With this faith and love we can bring Jesus’ Good News to the Church and the World using our wonderful gifts.
Philosophy
     The Catholic Deaf Community is a diverse community and has many ways of serving people.
     We are a community where people feel loved and respected.
     We encourage each person to see their own dignity and responsibility because they are God’s children.
     We are both a separate and mainstreamed community.
     We work together with parish and diocesan leaders to fulfill our mission while maintaining our identity.
     We encourage all people in the church and society to understand our differences.
     We advocate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people who are oppressed and forgotten.

THIS & THAT

This is being written on the feast day of St Francis DeSales, January 24th. At Mass I prayed for all the Deaf. St Francis watches over them in a special way!

As we try and stay warm, I hope we are getting ready to enter Lent. It starts “early” this year: February 9th. It is a time of great blessings if we take the time to fast, and pray, and give money to the poor. Let me share one quote that I read for myself every year:

“Lent is so very difficult, because it’s a time when we face ourselves...and discover many things... Among them our half-hearted service to God.”

Remember that Bishop Moynihan will celebrate Palm Sunday with the Deaf, March 19th! The dinner will follow. Remember to reserve your place.

I was able to attend two special conferences: one for Youth Ministry in December and one for Deaf Ministry in January. So much information! So many good contacts! I hope to share with you throughout this year.

Congratulations to Jennifer & John Evans on their new daughter Grace Katherine, born November 11th and baptized on December 19th! Jennifer’s sister
Kristin, who lives in Indonesia, is head of the relief efforts there. She was on 60 Minutes, CBS news, and in papers throughout the country.

Also baptized on December 19th were Mercedes and Michaela, daughters of Michelle Burchett’s daughter Stephanie and her husband Dennis. Congratulations!

Thank you to Marion Baratta who writes that Mary & Bob Menotti are enjoying the sunshine in Arizona, and Joan Keeffe is in New Mexico...all with family.
She also writes that Frances Harmon is recovering well from hip surgery in November. Good news!
