of Syracuse Vol. 20 No.2 - June - July - August 2009 | ![]() |

This
& That June
19th, the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, will begin The Year of
the Priest. Please pray for all our priests. We wish Bishop James Moynihan the best on his well deserved retirement The Thomas Johns Memorial Appreciation Award was to be awarded at the Palm Sunday Mass and Dinner which had to be cancelled due to Bishop Moynihan’s health. It will be held and presented next year. Hopefully there will be a Mass with Bishop Robert Cunningham. Rest In Peace Frank Rakowski, husband of Pauline Anne Campbell, mother of Christopher Frank Carulli, father of Carolyn Schindler Congratulations Lu Folmar, our dedicated interpreter at St James in Johnson City, on her degree in nursing. Beth Thurlow on graduating from Cayuga Community College. Karolina Lachut who graduates from NYSSD. Congratulations also to our newest priest of the Syracuse Diocese: Fr Lukasz Kozlowski, ordained June 6th. Thank you to the Central NY Chapter of the Knights of Columbus for their continuing support. They presented us with a check for $1100. Summer Picnics Yes, it’s that fun time of year! If you see Kris Scheibel say hi. He is studying for the priesthood...and needs to practice his signing! Maybe Zach Miller, another seminarian, will be able to come sometime. He is learning too. Interpreted Masses You may notice more on the calendars! Holy Trinity in Fulton has begun regular interpreted Masses. All Saints in Syracuse now will have Dr Martin interpreting every Sunday. Would you like to have an interpreted Mass set up in Cicero? Let me know. The famous writer G. K. Chesterton became a Catholic. Why? He wrote: “The difficulty of explaining why I am Catholic, is that there are 10,000 reasons all amounting to one reason: that Catholicism is true.” |

Castle in Ireland, April 2008. It is said that when you kiss the
Blarney Stone, the next kiss passes on the gift of Blarney....so she
kissed her hands.

Catholics
have a sacramental view of the world. That is, for a Catholic, all of
creation is good, and everything in our finite world can be a vessel of
God’s presence and God’s transforming grace.
This idea provides the foundation for Catholicism’s rich mysticism and spirituality, its unparalleled social justice doctrine, its care of the poor, and its exquisite legacy of artists and writers. Jamie L. Manson |
