History of WCCCLC

The Western Canada Chinese Catholic Living Camp (W.C.C.C.L.C.) is an annual spiritual event held every year on the Labour Day weekend and is jointly organized by lay Catholics from many parishes in the West Coast region. Its purpose is to help young Chinese Catholics to strengthen their faith, re-energize themselves and return to their parishes to serve God and His people.

W.C.C.C.L.C. was originated from the Eastern Canada Chinese Catholic Living Camp (E.C.C.C.L.C.), an annual spiritual retreat held on the Labour Day weekend since 1977. This event has provided a conductive atmosphere for Chinese Catholic young adults from Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa to renew their faith and embrace their life.

The spirit of E.C.C.C.L.C. spread to the West Coast when ex-E.C.C.C.L.C. campers started brainstorming the idea of W.C.C.C.L.C. in Vancouver. The first W.C.C.C.L.C. was held in 1997, and it was planned by a group of young adults who have participated in previous E.C.C.C.L.C. Today, the planning committee is formed by Chinese Catholic youth from various parishes who work as a group to organize this yearly spiritual event.
