WCCCLC 2005:

以愛還愛 Be Touched; To Touch

May we be touched by Christ through the Eucharist, and embrace the world in communion in His Love

"A leper came to Him begging, and kneeling he said to Him, 'If you choose, you can make me clean.' Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, 'I do choose. Be made clean!' Immediately, the leprosy left him, and he was made clean." (Mk 1:40-42) Just as Jesus touched the leper and transformed him with His Love more than 2000 years ago, Jesus comes and touches each of us today! But how, you may ask?

You see, Jesus never left us! When we recognize His Presence in all people, all things and situations, we are being touched by His Grace! The Lord touches us as we find Him in the beautiful sunset, in the weak, in the poor, in our family, in our workplace, and in all joyful and sorrowful moments.

And most amazingly, the Risen Jesus really physically never left us! Christ loves us so much that He chooses to remain with us in the Eucharist. The Eucharist is truly, substantially, the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our dearly beloved Lord Jesus Christ! Through the Holy Eucharist, we are being physically touched by God Himself! In Pope John Paul II's Apostolic Letter Mane Nobiscum Domine, he announced a special Year of the Eucharist, beginning October 17, 2004 through October, 2005. In this special year, let us open wide our hearts and be touched by Christ in the Eucharist.

Just like the two disciples of Emmaus, who upon recognizing the Lord in the breaking of the bread, "set out at once and spread the news of the Risen One to the eleven and those with them" (Lk 24:33-34), we too cannot keep this Joy to ourselves! As we receive the Lord in the Eucharist, we become one body in Christ, in the communion of His Love--the Holy Spirit. With Christ as our head, we, the members of His Mystical Body, are truly Christ's hands, feet, eyes, and voice here on earth!

Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did it for me." (Mt 25:40). In our daily lives, when we touch the lives of those around us and far away, when we care for God's Creation, we embrace the world with God's Love; and in turn, we are blessed by His Love. In this circular way, "Be Touched" and "To Touch" encompass each other and are inseparable. Through us, God renews the face of the Earth and He transforms us!

As 2005 is the Year of the Eucharist, WCCCLC 2005 will focus on the most Holy Eucharist--the very centre of our lives and of Church's Mission. May we be touched by Christ's Body and Blood in the Eucharist and embrace the world in His Love!
