Mary DeMatteo-Vitale will begin sign language classes after the

There are many interesting and exciting things planned for you during our
conference week including: a business meeting, election of new ICDA-US officers,
great workshop presentations, wonderful guest speakers and an awards banquet.
During this week you will have an opportunity to enjoy thrilling trips to
areas around Philadelphia. (Don't forget to bring your ""Red, White, and
Blue" clothes to wear on July 4 th).
If you decide to come early to Philadelphia, there are many things to
do around the Philadelphia area: walking tours of historical attractions,
magnificent museums, many restaurants and, of course, you won't want to
miss our national historical landmark, City Hall. We hope that you
start planning now to come to Philadelphia for the Conference and take part
in all the educational opportunities, renewal of friendships, exciting tours
and great fun that Chapter #8 has planned for you to enjoy!

THIS & THAT
Reserve now for the April weekend with Timo Owens ... and save $ 10!
ICDA's Conference in July should be a wonderful time. Ask about car pooling!
A big Thank You to Fr Peter for traveling to all four areas of the diocese
to give his wonderful Advent presentations on "The Advent Season ... waiting
for the pizza person." He also provided for the Sacrament of Penance!
Marion Baratta reports that Marie Boland died on Dec 31. Marie was a graduate
of Gallaudet University. She was a teacher for the Deaf at the Arizona School
for the Deaf, and later worked in food service in the Washington, DC area.
Marie was able to give the gift of life to a 54 year old man by donating
her liver. Now she is at peace with God.
Joan Keeffe opened her home to the Deaf Community from St Lucy's on December
29th for a pot luck Christmas Party. Fr Pete was able to make it!
On December 18th Nellie Charma, died. Although she belonged to the Episcopal
Church, she was very often at the activities in the Eastern Area. Last January
we celebrated her 89"' birthday with a cake! She will be missed.
NYSSD kept us busy in December with Religious Education classes, lively
basketball games, lunch with Santa, and their Christmas Program. Mother Ginger
Nagel's classes joined with ours for the Christmas Parties. Always a wonderful,
fun time!
Bea Murphy took a nasty fall and broke her ankle. She won't be able to
interpret at St John's in February. Please pray for her quick recovery!
In Rome, on the 2nd and 4th weekends, Mary Margaret sometimes will interpret
at St Mary's Church. If you want to know the time, email syrdeaf(at)juno.com
or call 339-2143 (V/TTY).
Our friendly Canadian neighbors invite us to share their Lenten Mission
in Ottawa March 7-9 ( Sr Ann Albrecht will do Body Prayer), or in London April
4-6, If you are interested, contact Mary Margaret and she can get more information
for you.
Thank you to Rev Alfred Nortz for his support of this newsletter!
Also in the Office, we have some small booklets: Catholic Prayers for Morning,
Noon, and Night. One can easily be mailed if you ask!
