Seminary Formation

The Seminary formation programme consists in the initiation of the young man into the vision and spirit of the Missionary Society of St Paul. It comprises four phases:

        1. Discernment and Admission

        2. Probation

        3. Direct preparation for Missionary Ministry

        4. First Missionary Appointment.

The entire Seminary formation duration is nine years. The first 2 years of formation is devoted to an intensive course in spirituality. After this, the next three years is for studies in standard philosophy and humanities; and the last four years for standard theology course. The elements of the seminary formation and the ways in which it is carried out are are dictated by the missionary spirit of the Society.

Prayer, study, experience and reflection - these are the main elements of our formation which is always continuous. Its aim is to prepare members and make us constantly better fitted for the task of evangelization, to make us sensitive, attentive and responsive to the prompting of the Spirit in our missionary vocation.

In formation, the young man strives to respond to the Lord's call in his discernment and his experience of the Society. He bears his primary responsibility for his own formation. The Society provides an atmosphere and experience which facilitates both the discernment of an authentic missionary calling and the growth of the whole person in the gifts and virtues suitable to his missionary task.
